The mysterious world of amber awaits its explorers. The “Bursztynowe Rzemiosło 2027” competition opens
Until 10 February 2027, works can be submitted to the 24th edition of the Karol Kowalski “Bursztynowe Rzemiosło” (Amber Craft) competition, organised by the Pomeranian Chamber of Crafts for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in Gdańsk. This year’s edition runs under the motto “Amber. Tradition. Imagination.”, and its main theme is “The Mysterious World of Amber”.
The competition is one of the most important events promoting contemporary amber craft and goldsmithing in Poland. Its aim is not only to present the highest level of artistic craftsmanship, but also to support young makers and promote vocational training in the jewellery industry. Participants are invited to create works showing amber in new and unexpected contexts, combining tradition with individual imagination.

Two categories of participants
The competition has two categories: Juniors, for goldsmithing apprentices up to the age of 22, and Seniors, for professional goldsmiths and amber craftsmen with confirmed professional qualifications. Each participant may submit up to four works, and each must contain Baltic amber. Works will be judged anonymously. Every entry will be assigned an individual identification code to guarantee an objective assessment by the jury.
Winners of the previous edition
The previous edition, held under the motto “The charm and energy of amber in jewellery”, showed a great variety of creative interpretations of Baltic amber. In the Seniors category, Grzegorz Tryjefaczka won with “Kropla Bałtyku” (A Drop of the Baltic). Second place went to Krzysztof Konrad Bondaruk for “Puls bałtyckiej głębi” (Pulse of the Baltic Deep), and third to Bohdan Hołub for “Uroboros – koniec oznacza początek” (Ouroboros: the end means the beginning).

In the Juniors category, first prize went to Julia Gorgol for “Królowa gdańskich spojrzeń” (Queen of Gdańsk Glances). The next places went to Gabriela Roślik for “Przebudzenie” (Awakening) and Emilia Katka for “Światowa Stolica Bursztynu” (World Capital of Amber). The jury also gave distinctions to “Góra Uluru”, “Dance with the Wind” and “Magnetyczne Oko”.

The final at the world’s largest amber fair
This year’s winners will be announced during AMBERIF Spring 2027, held on 11-13 March 2027. Importantly, the best works will not end their competition journey with the announcement of the results. As planned by the organisers, they will also be shown at exhibitions organised by the Union of Polish Maritime Cities and Municipalities and at the Amber Museum, a branch of the Museum of Gdańsk, becoming part of a wider presentation of contemporary amber art.
A prestigious event
The competition is held under the patronage of, among others, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Museum of Gdańsk and the Polish Craft Association, which underlines its importance for the development and promotion of Polish jewellery craft.
Submission deadline
The deadline for entries is 10 February 2027. The organisers hope that this year, too, participants will show how many new stories can be told through one of Pomerania’s most distinctive symbols.
