Gdańsk Jewellery Week 2026: “Magia Materii” (Magic of Matter) – the AMBERIF Design Award Amber Capsule Returns!

Jarmark św. Dominika (St. Dominic's Fair) is behind us. Thousands of Gdańsk residents, tourists and lovers of art, design and Baltic amber admired the new interior of the amber capsule. Those who have not yet seen our new exhibition will have a chance to do so on October 2–4 at Amber Expo in Gdańsk.

Inside the capsule we present works qualified for the 29th edition of the international competition AMBERIF Design Award 2026 “Magia Materii” (Magic of Matter).

Dozens of objects, 207 entries from 28 countries

Visitors can admire dozens of objects by 39 artists selected by an international jury. The exhibition's curator is Ivona Haurash, winner of the Grand Prize of the AMBERIF Design Award 2026, whose work was judged the best of 207 entries submitted from 28 countries around the world.

A dialogue of matter

This year's winner was awarded for the ring “Dialogue of Matter.” The international jury unanimously recognized the design for its creative dialogue between Baltic amber and a form inspired by a plastic bag, addressing the relationship between people and matter, the environment and contemporary culture.

Ivona Haurash from Poland wins

The Grand Prize, worth PLN 30,000, funded by the Mayor of Gdańsk Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, and 1 kg of silver provided by KGHM Polska Miedź, was won by Ivona Haurash from Poland. The prize was presented at the Amber Vibes 2026 gala at AMBEREXPO in Gdańsk. The prize pool of the Amberif Design Award makes it one of the most important art jewelry competitions in the world.

Century-old wood, a mural and multimedia

The interior design of the space, using elements of almost one-hundred-year-old wood, was created by Małgorzata Gliwińska-Radwańska and executed by Regalia Polska Manufaktura. The natural material, marked by history and the passage of time, forms a unique backdrop for the competition works on display, emphasizing the idea of a dialogue between tradition, nature and contemporary design. The whole is complemented by multimedia presentations and the mural “Gdańskie inkluzje” (Gdańsk Inclusions), made by residents and tourists under the guidance of artists from Happy Gallery.

Three narratives

The Amberif Design Award 2026 amber capsule project brings together three narratives important to Gdańsk: Baltic amber as a symbol of the city, contemporary design represented by the AMBERIF Design Award competition, and the active participation of residents and tourists.
