Medal of the Mayor of Gdańsk for Agnieszka Klikowicz-Kosior and Michał Kosior
From amber laboratories in Gdańsk and Doha to EXPO in Osaka. Agnieszka Klikowicz-Kosior and Michał Kosior were honored with the Medal of the Mayor of Gdańsk for promoting Gdańsk as the World Capital of Amber.
There are many ways to talk about amber. Agnieszka Klikowicz-Kosior and Michał Kosior have done so for years through research, education, publications and international projects promoting Gdańsk. On October 9, during the Regional Celebrations of World Tourism Day, held under the theme “Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence in the Service of Change in Tourism” at the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk, the founders of the Amber Experts brand were awarded the Medal of the Mayor of Gdańsk for their work promoting amber and building the image of Gdańsk as the World Capital of Amber. On behalf of Mayor Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, the medal was presented by Piotr Borawski, Deputy Mayor for mobility and safety.
2 decades
Michał Kosior, a Gdańsk native, has been professionally involved with amber for over 25 years. He was the press spokesman of the Amberif fair, headed the office of the International Amber Association, co-founded amber research laboratories, and today is a court expert, appraiser and founder of the Amber Experts laboratory. In 2020 he received the title of Amber Person of the Year 2019.
Agnieszka Klikowicz-Kosior, a graduate of the Gdańsk University of Technology, has worked for more than a dozen years at the intersection of education, promotion and amber research. At the International Amber Association she was responsible for implementing the Amber Laboratory and the certification system for amber products. She is also the author of educational materials for children, including the book “1001 bursztynków” (1001 Little Ambers) and the game “Amber Duo.”
Gdańsk promoted from Bahrain to Japan
The work of both laureates reaches far beyond Poland. For years they have carried out expert, educational and promotional projects in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the United States. In all of these activities amber is presented in close connection with Gdańsk and Pomerania. As Marta Chełkowska, president of the Pomeranian Regional Tourist Organization, emphasizes, the work of Agnieszka Klikowicz-Kosior and Michał Kosior “lastingly and consistently strengthens the position of Gdańsk as a city with a unique amber heritage and strong expert resources.” As consultants, the laureates work with the Danat Institute for Pearls and Gemstones in Bahrain, where they train gemologists in amber identification and run workshops for collectors. In 2025 they also took part in delivering the Pomeranian Voivodeship's program at EXPO 2025 in Osaka, leading workshops, multimedia presentations and the educational game “Amber Game.” Their publications appear in international trade magazines, including InColor Magazine, and the results of their amber research have been presented at the International Gemmological Conference, the most important gemological conference in the world.
More than a laboratory
Since 2019 they have run the Amber Experts laboratory in Gdańsk, offering gemological testing, expert opinions and amber certification. They also work with the Amber Museum in Gdańsk and the Museum of Amber Inclusions of the University of Gdańsk, supporting scientific research and donating specimens to museum collections.
