The Polish Amber Sanding Record Will Be Broken Again in Gdańsk!
On October 3, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., during Gdańsk Jewellery Week 2026 at Amber Expo in Gdańsk, the Polish record in amber sanding will be broken. You can still register to take part in the event.
The current official record is 152 people, set on September 5, 2025, during Gdańsk Jewellery Week 2025. Those who took part in the event at Amber Expo included Lidia Popiel, Amber Ambassador, representatives of the city authorities, councilors, designers and craftspeople, Gdańsk patrician women, merchants, seniors and young people from the Zespół Szkół Kreowania Wizerunku.

A natural nugget, three sandpapers and polishing paste
Each participant received a raw amber nugget with a hole, a set of sandpapers of increasing grit, a fleece cloth and polishing paste, as well as containers with water and paraffin, to finish a handmade necklace on a cord. The record required that work begin synchronously and continue within the set time.

The official record
The record improved on an earlier, unofficial result of 95 people, set by members of the Aktywny Senior association on March 21, 2025, in Gdańsk on the first day of the Amberif Spring 2025 fair. At the end, participants were given commemorative certificates, and a representative of the Polish Records Office officially announced that from that day the Polish record in the simultaneous sanding of Baltic amber stood at 152 people and had been set in Gdańsk, which confirms the city's status as the world capital of amber.

The initiative is coordinated by Robert Pytlos from the Office of the Mayor of Gdańsk, and the organizers are Międzynarodowe Targi Gdańskie (Gdańsk International Fair Co.) and the Union of Polish Maritime Cities and Communities.
