Gdańsk Jewellery Week: 338 People and a Boost for the Craft
338 people, one material and a shared goal. The Polish record in amber grinding was one of the most extraordinary events of Gdańsk Jewellery Week 2026.
First came the hum of conversation. Then came the concentration. Dozens of people sat at the tables, bent over small pieces of amber. For many of them it was their first contact with genuine amber craft.
The attempt to set the Polish Record in Amber Grinding was one of the most anticipated events of the festival. In one place and at one time, 338 people worked amber, setting a new record.

Not Only About Breaking a Record
The most interesting part, however, was not the record attempt itself. It was the participants' reactions. After a few minutes of work, most began to understand how much patience working amber requires. That was the moment when a finished piece of jewelry stopped being merely a product and became the result of human work. 338 participants personally experienced the process of hand-working Baltic amber.

Media Coverage
The media impact was just as important. News of the event appeared in local media, was shown on the Teleexpress program on TVP1, and was covered by TVP3 Gdańsk, where the record was presented in the main news bulletin “Panorama,” as well as by Radio Gdańsk. As a result, the message about Gdańsk amber craft reached not just several hundred event participants but an audience of many thousands across the country.

Gdańsk Jewellery Week is organized by Międzynarodowe Targi Gdańskie S.A. (Gdańsk International Fair Co.), the operator of the “Gdańsk – Światowa Stolica Bursztynu” (Gdańsk – World Capital of Amber) strategy, which names craft and the work of the hands as one of the most important elements of the city's amber heritage. Thanks to the record, hundreds of participants could experience working with Baltic amber for themselves and better understand the value of traditional amber-working skills.
