Gdańsk Jewellery Week 2026: “Gdyński Szlif, Gdańska Kolekcja” (Gdynia Cut, Gdańsk Collection) Exhibition Extended to October 4

A special amber exhibition prepared for the 100th anniversary of Gdynia has been extended until October 4, 2026. The display has thus been included in the program of events accompanying Gdańsk Jewellery Week 2026.

The exhibition presents exceptional works by Gdynia jewelry makers and amber artists from the collection of the Amber Museum, a branch of the Museum of Gdańsk. The display was prepared to mark the 100th anniversary of Gdynia and, thanks to great visitor interest, has been extended by more than a month.

Baltic amber, Gdańsk, Gdynia, Pomerania

The exhibition shows how strongly the history of Baltic amber is tied to the whole of Pomerania and how important a role artists working in Gdynia played in the development of contemporary design. Visitors will see several dozen objects, from the 1960s to contemporary works, representing diverse trends in jewelry design and artistic interpretation of amber.

Outstanding artists connected with Gdynia

The display presents works by outstanding artists connected with Gdynia: Paweł and Maria Fietkiewicz, Danuta Czapnik, Marek Micki, Wiesław Książek, Adriana Lisowska, Sławomir Fijałkowski, Emilia Kohut and one of the largest Polish amber companies, S&A Jewellery Design. The works on show include both classic examples of the Gdańsk and Gdynia schools of amber work and modern pieces experimenting with the form, material and meaning of jewelry.

Historical brooches, medallions and contemporary pieces

Visitors will be able to admire an extremely varied range of objects: from historical brooches, medallions and pendants by the Fietkiewicz couple, through compositions by Danuta Czapnik, to contemporary pieces by Adriana Lisowska. The exhibition shows the evolution of thinking about Baltic amber, from a traditional jewelry stone to a full-fledged medium of contemporary art.

Shared heritage

The exhibition is also an opportunity to look at Baltic amber as part of the shared heritage of Gdańsk and Gdynia. It shows that although the two cities developed under different historical conditions, they are linked by their maritime character, a culture of design and a long tradition of working with Baltic amber, not without reason called the “gold of the north.” The display is complemented by elements of an amber worker’s studio and multimedia presentations.

Including the exhibition in the program of events accompanying Gdańsk Jewellery Week 2026 underscores the importance of Gdynia and Gdańsk as the main centers of Polish amber work and contemporary art jewelry.
