Participants of the “Bursztynowy Reset Głowy” (Amber Head Reset) workshop grinding amber at Gdynia InfoBox

Gdańsk Jewellery Week 2026: Training for the Polish Amber Grinding Record!

In 2 weeks we will break the Polish grinding record. An excellent opportunity to train for it was the “Bursztynowy Reset Głowy” (Amber Head Reset) workshop at Gdynia InfoBox, held as part of the exhibition “Gdyński Szlif, Gdańska Kolekcja” (Gdynia Cut, Gdańsk Collection).

This was another workshop of this kind in Gdynia. Several dozen Gdynia residents took part, answering the invitation of the exhibition’s organizers. They ground and polished natural pieces of Baltic amber under the guidance of Daria Burkowska, a well-known amber artisan, and Robert Pytlos, amber coordinator at the Office of the Mayor of Gdańsk and a journeyman amber craftsman.

Where did the idea come from?

Working with Baltic amber affects people in a remarkable way. It requires focus, patience and precision. After the sessions, many participants say those few hours were a form of calm and rest for them. Hence the word “reset”.

Workshops with women footballers and an astronaut

Over the past few years the “Bursztynowy Reset Głowy” workshops have become very popular, not only at the Amber Museum in Gdańsk. Participants have included Dr. Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, the Polish women’s national football team and Aneta Rygielska, women’s boxing world vice-champion.

On century-old wood

The participants in Gdynia worked in the attractive setting of the exhibition “Gdyński Szlif, Gdańska Kolekcja” at a unique table made by the company Regalia, which uses only old materials in its work. At the end of the workshop everyone agreed that the fate of the old Polish record is already sealed.

Exceptional works by Gdynia artists

The workshop took place within the exceptional exhibition “Gdyński Szlif, Gdańska Kolekcja”, presenting exceptional works by Gdynia jewelry makers and amber artists from the collection of the Amber Museum, a branch of the Museum of Gdańsk. The exposition features works by outstanding artists associated with Gdynia: Paweł and Maria Fietkiewicz, Danuta Czapnik, Marek Mikicki, Wiesław Książek, Adriana Lisowska, Sławomir Fijałkowski, Emilia Kohut and one of the largest Polish amber companies, S&A Jewellery Design. The works on display include both classic examples of the Gdańsk and Gdynia schools of amber craft and modern pieces experimenting with the form, material and meaning of jewelry. The exhibition runs until October 4.
