Gdańsk Jewellery Week 2026: The Amber Seeker and UV Light
UV flashlights, real Baltic amber and hundreds of discoverers, young and old. “Poszukiwacz Bursztynu” (Amber Seeker) was one of the most popular attractions of the festival. The most amber, a full 2 kg, was found over 3 days by Emilia, a teenager.
First came the concentration. Then the cry: “Got it!” A moment later another person found their amber.

Will the Seeker Outdo the “Poławiacz” (Gatherer)?
For most of the day there was no shortage of people around the “Poszukiwacz Bursztynu” stand. Children, parents and grandparents searched a specially prepared area together with UV flashlights, trying to find hidden pieces of Baltic amber in soil from the plot where amber is mined by Krzysztof Biereśniewicz, one of the stars of the series “Złoto Północy” (Gold of the North).

Not Just Fun
It was not just a game. For many participants it was a first encounter with the history of amber mining and a chance to learn about a material that for centuries built the importance of Gdańsk. The most interesting part was how quickly ordinary curiosity turned into engagement. A few minutes were enough for children to start asking about the origin of Baltic amber, its age or how it is mined.

Gdańsk Jewellery Week is organized by Międzynarodowe Targi Gdańskie S.A. (Gdańsk International Fair Co.), the operator of the “Gdańsk – Światowa Stolica Bursztynu” (Gdańsk – World Amber Capital) strategy. One of its aims is to create new experiences related to amber. “Poszukiwacz Bursztynu” showed that education does not have to start with a lecture. Sometimes curiosity, UV light and the chance to discover things on your own are enough.
