Gdańsk Jewellery Week 2026: The Amber Museum, Heart of the World Amber Capital

Design, craft, education and contemporary art. During Gdańsk Jewellery Week 2026, the Amber Museum became one of the festival's most important venues.

Some places are visited once. Others draw you back several times during a single festival. At Gdańsk Jewellery Week, the Amber Museum in Gdańsk was such a place.

Design, Craft and Artistic Experiments

Although the center of events was at AMBEREXPO, an important part of the program also took place outside the fairgrounds. At the Amber Museum visitors could see Marcin Tymiński's exhibition “Historie, które wydarzyły się naprawdę” (Stories That Really Happened), the presentation of works by young Academy of Fine Arts designers “Spoiler Alert”, and the exhibition “Bursztynowe Rzemiosło” (Amber Craft), showing the traditions and contemporary faces of working with amber.

The juxtaposition of different perspectives was especially interesting. On one side, contemporary design and artistic experiment presented by the younger generation of makers. On the other, the craft that has been the foundation of Gdańsk amber work for centuries. Between them was one more exhibition, of works made during the “Bursztynowy Reset Głowy” (Amber Head Reset) workshops, where participants could work with amber by hand and better understand how it is processed.

Baltic Amber as Part of the City's History and an Inspiration for Artists

Over the three days of the festival, one could move from modern art jewelry to the history of the craft, and from museum exhibitions to hands-on work with Baltic amber. It was here that it was easiest to see that Baltic amber is not only a jewelry material. It is part of the city's history, an inspiration for artists and an important element of contemporary culture.

Gdańsk Jewellery Week is organized by Międzynarodowe Targi Gdańskie S.A. (Gdańsk International Fair Co.), operator of the strategy Gdańsk – World Amber Capital. One of its aims is to develop contemporary design and to present the most interesting phenomena related to Baltic amber. The exhibitions shown at the Amber Museum during the festival demonstrated that art, education and craft can together build interest in Baltic amber and its contemporary significance.
