Amber Academy 1/2025: The Amber Products Factory in Gdańsk and Jewelry Design of the PRL Period – Meeting with Dr. Michał Myśliński

The fourth publication by Dr. Michał Myśliński in his series of monographs on the history of production and design of jewelry and fancy goods of the PRL period, devoted to one of the oldest Polish factories – founded in Gdańsk in December 1945 and known since 1973 as “Bursztyny”. From the very beginning the factory specialized in products made of amber – natural and pressed – and of plastics, working on design with, among others, Jadwiga and Jerzy Zaremski, the Production Aesthetics Supervision Office in Warsaw and Cepelia. From 1954, when the factory became a cooperative subordinate to Cepelia, its jewelry products began to win an ever wider circle of customers – lovers of amber jewelry and of silver jewelry with amber. Today it is sought after both as an object added to private and museum collections of PRL applied-arts design and as vintage jewelry that is gladly worn.
